Why we do this
Most of our week is spent helping nonprofits, charities, and community organizations run well. KND Cares is what we do with some of the rest of it — hours we give, free, to the community around us.
No invoices, no case studies, no strings attached. Just the kind of work that reminds us why we do the other kind.
Chapter one · Chess for Change
Patience, foresight, and a board between friends.
We bring chess fairs to local schools — boards set up, pieces out, and a room full of students discovering that thinking two moves ahead is a skill anyone can learn.
Through Chess for Change, we've also donated chess sets to Ottawa school boards, so the game keeps going long after the fair is packed up. Patience, strategy, resilience under pressure — the same habits our consultants lean on every day, learned by playing.
Chapter two · City cleanups
A tidier city, by hand.
Some days the most useful thing we can offer isn't advice — it's gloves, garbage bags, and a few hours. Our cleanup days take us out to shared spaces around the city, to leave them better than we found them.
It's unglamorous work, cheerfully done — and it has become one of the team's favourite ways to spend time together.
Chapter three · Finance in schools
The class we wish we'd had at seventeen.
We run free finance training sessions at high schools — practical, plain-language classes on money basics, taught by people who work with budgets for a living.
No products, no pitch. Just the things every student deserves to know before their first paycheque.
Chapter four · Showing up
Hands, hours, and home-team jerseys.
Beyond our own programs, we volunteer as a team wherever an extra pair of hands helps, and we sponsor local sports teams and community events.
Sometimes giving back is a program. Sometimes it's just showing up.
